The Core of Ashtanga Yoga
with Andrea Lutz & Tsutomu Yonashiro
September 20-22, 2019
Come and deepen your practice with the core principles of Ashtanga with these two wonderful, long-time teachers and practitioners!
In this workshop, we will focus on:
On Friday there will be a led class in the traditional Sanskrit counting followed by a short introduction.
On Saturday and Sunday, Andrea and Tsutomu will offer personal support and guidance in the Mysore classes. After the break, on both days, we will explore selected Asanas of the Primary Series in depth and detail along with their physical and energetic alignment.
The Breath and the Bandhas will be accentuated, which will help you increase your core strength and refine your practice. You will learn how to use weight and gravity to find more ease and lightness. You can progress your inner strength, allowing you to release all unnecessary tension in the body (and in the mind). In the theory part of the seminar, we will talk about the healing aspects of this powerful practice, the energetic body, and the importance of a regular and dedicated practice to achieve the best results.
Andrea is accompanied by Tsutomu Yanoshiro, both longtime practioners and fellow students of Nancy Gilgoff, one of the pioneers of Ashtanga Yoga. In 2017 they held an extended Workshop tour through Japan together, and are happy to offer a workshop for the first time in Athens.

Andrea started her Yoga practice in 1986 and developed since then a long-term and committed relation to Yoga.
She started her studies in the tradition of Shivananda and Iyengar until she met in 1997 her first Ashtanga
Yoga teacher. Immediately she was fascinated by this challenging tradition and is practicing daily since then.
Her Ashtanga Yoga practice is mainly influenced by the "old style” teachings of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, as carried on by her teachers Nancy Gilgoff and Manju P. Jois, with both of whom she is closely connected for more than 15 years. She travels the world to teach and study, and since 2006 she practices intensely with Nancy Gilgoff, and assisted her in many trainings worldwide.
In recent years, she completed four extended trips to Mysore, India to study Ashtanga Yoga with Vijay Kumar and Pranayama with his brother, Vinay Kumar.
For her entire adult life, Andrea has been researching different ways of moving and healing the body/mind. In addition to her deep studies in different Yoga traditions, Andrea has a profound background in Physiotherapy and Alternative Healing (“Heilpraktiker“), and she is a II Degree Reiki practitioner. For more than 10 years, she was full-time active in performance art and dance.
In 2005 Andrea founded and is still the director of one of the most prominent Berlin yoga studios, 'Ashtanga Studio Berlin', where she teaches daily Mysore classes.
Tsutomu is from Okinawa Japan. He Lived in the US for 15 years where he was introduced to Ashtanga yoga in 1999. In the US, he studied with some of the greatest teachers including Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, Manju Jois and Nancy Gilgoff.
Tsutomu moved back to Okinawa in 2004, and opened 'fe-nu yoga studio'. Since then, Nancy visits Okinawa every year to share her teachings. He has been practicing Ashtanga yoga with Nancy, and assisting when she teaches in Asia and Europe.
Tsutomu has been studying Craniosacral therapy since 2019. Tsutomu is happy to share this wonderful teachings at his Shala, and when he goes to many cities in Japan and Europe.
